Twill Weave

English  : twill weave

Definition: one of the 3 fundamental weaves. In its simplest form, it is formed by passing a weft thread over 2 warp threads and under the next warp thread; this pattern is repeated with every warp-weft interlace. Assuming that the first weft thread passes over the first and second warp threads and under the third one, then the second weft thread will pass over the second and third warp threads and under the fourth one and so one. Twill weaves are characterized by diagonal lines on their surfaces and need at least 3 shafts to weave. Popular examples include jeans and gabardine fabrics.
