Jack looms are categorized under floor looms. In jack  looms,  the shed is opened by means of foot pressure on the treadles which, in turn, are connected to the set of shafts that needs to be lifted according to the desired design.
\nThe treadles are connected to the shafts by a set of jacks and pulleys which lift the shafts allocated to open the shed, hence the name of  jack loom. In Salma jack looms, the shed is opened upwards only.
